Loop the Lake ITT

This year I didn't have anyone to start the loop to it was always going to be like an individual time trial. Last year with Wayne we smashed it and averaged in the 34km/h so if I could match that by myself I'd be happy.

I never really got to work with anyone except for a few kms so I was happy to match last years time. Below are my strava and garmin profiles. I'm also happy with my avg power etc.

Well I smashed it this year. It was me and Dicko sharing the load and right from the start we on the pace. We had one stop to top up the water but was pretty much on the gas the whole way. This is my fastest (avg speed) ride by a long way. The weather was perfect as well so in all a top ride

All I can was that was tough. I had a goal of 2 hours 45 minutes which I knew was going to be tough. To get 2 hours 45 minutes I would have needed an average of 32km/h. My previous fastest ride ever was Loop the Lake 2010 with an average speed of 29.3km/h

Notes from todays ride are;

  • This was my first ride ever where I have cracked the 30km/h barrier so I have to be happy with that Smiling
  • I was thinking I would need to drink at least 3 bottles. I didn't and paid for it big time

Akuna Bay + West Head x 3. Never thought I would say that Smiling. I did 2 laps with Andy and was pretty stuffed after that but rested for 10 minutes and went for a third Shocked

The third lap hurt like hell but just kept spinning. This is my longest ride in one go.

Cracked 3 hours

It looked to be a miserable day when I woke at 6am to the sound of rain. Headed over to the start where I met up with the other NobMobers and we ended up heading of at 7:30 on the dot. Stopped with Gary at the first stop (about 35kms I think) which wasn't planned but they had changed the route from the previous year and it was a little confusing which way we needed to go. Straight after we stopped Harry and Pikey turned up. Pikey's first comment was "Hey, I thought you were going to be trying this year". haha... Anyway, a quick photo shoot and Gary and I were off again.

Well, I did Loop The Lake today around Lake Macquarie. 3 Hours and 17 minutes for 87km's. I got there early to meet Harry, Pikey and Brian. We started a little later behind the main pack but as this was no Sydney to Gong ride it didn't really matter. In fact, with heaps less riders (compared to the 14,000 riders in the last Gong ride) it made this one a lot more enjoyable. Once we had started and what felt like only about a few kilomters I had dropped the others. I seriously get too exited and need to at least allow time to warm up Smiling.

All in all a great ride. I was happy to come in at 3 hours and 5 minutes. This time I set the screen to only show, speed, heart rate and cadence as I normally end up focusing on distance to go. Next year I would like try to make the very front for the start as the hold ups from the other cyclists was a bit annoying.

Had a go at riding home but could only make Waterfall due to unforseen issues Eye-wink

Also, previous to today I had only ridden 80km before.
