How to watch TdF

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

OK, so this is a little silly. I'm about to retire to the couch to pick up SBS coverage, but see screenshot below. Clockwise from top left:

- Browser with gmail, calendar, etc. (this never closes).
- SBS live streaming (MythTV on HD tuner).
- letour.fr gaps page showing rider splits.
- Live stream from Europe. Shhhh Eye-wink
- A bit of the Desktop background poking through.
- Everyone's favourite MTB site Eye-wink

Planning a ride to Maitland

Wondering if anyone has a route they know or some useful tips...like rest stops, facilities etc.
Going up the old pacific hwy then wisemens ferry rd, will then cut back along Dog Trap Road all the way to Pacific Hwy just north of Ourimbah Train Station, follow hwy to Tuggerah, cutting back inland at Wyong on Alison Rd, and following Hue Hue Rd parallel to Freeway, then onto Freemans Drive at Wyee, then upto Mulbring and Buchanan before Green Hills.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Cheers

New bike

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I posted a while back about buying a road bike but never got around to doing anything about it. This rain and the lack of dry tracks to ride on have spurred me into action. Any advice about the carbon/alloy option? If I get a carbon bike that's only a little but more expensive than an alloy is it a cheap carbon and I could have issues or should carbon always be decent on a decent brand?

chain meshing (or not) on the 39T chainring

I've just put a new drivetrain on my scummer, well everything except the crankset and chainrings, and had an interesting problem this moring.

The bike was 8 speed when I got it, and I replaced the crankset and chainrings with a carbon Truvativ Rouler, with new 10 sp FSA rings that I had hanging around. After about 500 easy k's I've upgraded to 10 speed. Dura-ace chain, Ultegra 10 sp FD, 105 cassette. Everything appeared perfect on the bike stand, and on a short test ride around the block yesterday.

Epping to City

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Unfortunately leaving the beloved northern beaches to become an inner westie.....muuuuuuggh

Anyone know of a Epping to City commute?

Google maps says to go through Victoria rd for 19km (walking)
The car route says the motorway across the bridge for 23km.

I've seen the bike paths along Epping road which suggests that it could be the best option but I'm more inclined to go along the Victoria road path given its shorter distance.

Any suggestions?

Giro D'Italia Stage 7

Hi all,

Just a suggestion.

Stage 7 of the Giro D'Italia just finished - and it was an ABSOLUTE epic. This pic gives you an idea:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/93rd-giro-dital...

So, no spoilers, I'll let you all enjoy the race. Do some googling and try to find a highlights package on youtube or whatever. (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/user/worldcyclingchannel2)

I watched the livestream on http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza - no doubt there will be some info there shortly.

Cheers!
Lance.

Probably going to look to do 2 laps if possible.

Meet at 8am?

Barrenjoey Road to Palm Beach

I'm thinking of doing a ride from Lane Cove to Palm beach (and back) but was wondering about Barrenjoey Road out past Newport to Palm beach.
Whats this road like to ride in terms of safety? I'm plannig on getting to Palm beach by about 8am and returning shortly after so I figure it should be fairly quiet?

If anyone is interested in this ride then it may convince me to do it, thinking about this sat.

Coloured Tyres?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

So... I'm doing a build and coloured tyres have been requested. Does anyone have any views on either Maxxis Detonator or Conti Ultra Sport:

http://www.maxxis.com/Bicycle/Road-Training/Deto...
http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/...

Neither have the high TPI that what seems to be a feature of the tyre of choice (the Ultra Gatorskin) but both claim to have some puncture resistance.

New Road Shoes - Current Shimano's too Narrow

Hi All,

Managed to get myself hit again on Wednesday night on the commute home. I'm OK, just a bit bruised and sore so that I've not had much interest in riding the last few days.

Looking to ride from Manly Whalf to West Head over the long weekend. Not sure the best rds to take as I'm not that familiar with traffic conditions in that part of town. Can any one help please?

Current Plan;
