Mega Road Ride (with Pies)
The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.
Corner of Mona Vale road and Forest Way.
UPDATE (24/09/2009): Start time changed to 7am
Not long before the Scott 24, time to start training. Whisperer took me on this ride a while ago and it's awesome, but hard.
Route plan
In a nutshell starting at around Forest Way, ride down to Palm Beach> Ferry to Ettalong Beach> Woy Woy> Kariong> Pacific Highway> Pie in the sky> Hornsby> Monavale road> back to the start. It's about 122KM's all up, with around 1800mtrs climbing.
I'll be on my SS hybrid so wont be setting any records, plus I will just be concentrating on my endurance training, so no big sprints. That said last time I did this I was on a geared MTB bike and struggled to keep up with the roadies.
Not sure what the weather is doing up there at the moment but if it's fine I will be doing this.
Check the last route plan here for more of an idea:

i'll ride from mosman and meet you at the start point.
GAZZA you're out of control!!!
would def join you boys but am goin away for the weekend, unlucky me!
Depends where you're going and who with
Will you be going down MVale Rd or McCreek Rd when you roll down to MV?
It looks like you and Whisperer made a toilet stop at THills (on the last ride)... I'm just trying to gauge whether to meet you at Baha'i Temple or THills Shops.
count me lucky then!
see you for some riding action next weekend!
I will come along to make up the SS numbers.
Plus I dont think my crank for the mtb will turn up in time now so will have to stick to the road anyway.
We were running late then so had to go down MVale road to catch the ferry, we also had to deal with a puncture. I would much rather go the scenic route, via McCarrs Creek road to past church point.
I haven't looked at the Ferry times yet either so the start time might have to change slightly.
For reference, this is the ride we did last time: http://nobmob.com/node/9878
It looks like the ferry is at 9am. I will move the start time to 7:30am.
Also please be sure to bring enough money to cover the Ferry fee, and of course the pies.
7:45am then?

I take it you wont be blasting it at the start...
Yeah, we will be there (or I will at least) by around 7:45. It's mostly down hill to the Ferry anyway right.. can't take that long
I like your way of thinking...

It's an additional 6kms with the McCarrs loop, so we may have to maintain a steady pace to make the 9am ferry.
I can put it back a bit more if you don't think we will make it in time. I haven't ridden that road very much, I'll bump it back another 15 mins.....
Not sure what your average speed on a SS, while in the lower levels of you heart rate zones, is.
According to GMaps, it's 26km from THills to Palmey, as long as we can maintain a minimum 26km/hr we should be fine.

Well, as we say it's mostly downhill. Lets play it by ear. if we are running late we will have to pedal harder.
It is definitely not downhill from mona vale to palmy, you've got bilgola and avalon hills (there's two climbs, not certain of the right names) to get over - when I did it on my own the first time I didn't allow for the slower pace up the coast and missed the 9am ferry by about 4 minutes
At the early part of the ride it's nice not to have to push too hard.
btw: wish I was coming too, I'd happily do it on the SS again...

OK, that's the info we need. I will update the start time once again
Everyone that is attending this ride please note the updated time which will apply to the meeting point. If we are meeting you along the way then please adjust your timings accordingly and keep your phones ready.....
That's why I said that I liked your way of thinking regarding the DH comment...
Here's the profile:
Looks DH to me!
I would join you if it wasn't for the race
meet you guys at the ferry. any idea how long from mosman?
Cant make it the boss has organised something I have to be at bugger.
this looks like a nice ride.
Thanks.
Tien.
I would say we would be passing through the shops at about 7:15 at this stage.
See you there.
Bugger, I would like to go but as I haven't been out for so long I don't think I could keep up or handle the pain
Shame this is tomorrow morning. I have to do 105km this weekend for Port Macquarie HIM, so this would have been great
I have my ride/run session tomorrow morning, which I can't miss
Hope you'll repeat this ride sometime soon on a Sunday...
If you've got a HIM in every port Anke, you could at least use their names.

Groover...
I think every girl should have a HIM for every occasion
There is a large bush fire in Frenchs Forest at the moment, just down the road from my house. If it hasn't gone out by tomorrow morning I'll have to pull out of the ride.
I'll keep you posted...
Sorry.
Bloody wind stirs up the dust again.
Have a god ride guys.
Tien.
Guys
what do you want to do? The dust is pretty bad out there?
p.s. at least the fire is under control here.
Was hoping the dust storm would have come and gone by morning.

I'm not that keen to be filling my lungs with the stuff... Is it possible to move it to Sunday?
Glad to hear the fire is under control.
I think that's a good idea to avoid riding in this... I just sms'ed Gazza who is of the same opinion.
Lets see when it clears up and play it by ear... aiming for around midday or Sunday start as the dust clears.
Cor.. what a night it's been here, I don't think I could ride to the shops they way I'm feeling at the moment.
Junkie, I don't have your mobile number, could you PM me please?
Gazza is up there on the Ferry and says it's all fine up there. I'm up for giving this a go...
For some reason this ride was longer than last time at 132km and more than 1800 climbing, perhaps I took a wrong turn.
Anyway, it was as good as I remember, and every bit as hard. Highly recommended, although I think next time I will take a bike with gears
bloody windy ride!
