Re: This ride meeting:
2010 Sydney To Gong

So after last weeks poor effort on the CCMTB 6 Hour, I was determind to put in for a good effort for todays ride and was looking to make sure I finished in under 3 Hours and hold a good average speed as well.

Aim was to get to get St Peters for a 6am start, however a mate of mine had overslept and we didnt manage to get on the road till 6.30amish, I was a little worried about the crowds at that point and sure enough it was a very slow start over the first 15kms or so until we picked a bit up the front of Brighton Le Sands. Once we hit the freeway, the road opened up a little and we started to overtake a lot of riders through our little 3 man paceline until we got to Waterfall station and hooked a descended into the RNP, then started the climb up to Stanwell Tops. At that point I wasnt feeling to brilliant, it was pretty cold in the RNP at that time of the morning and was starting to feel it, however a quick banana and I was soon passing riders on the climb fairly easily and making sure no one could get on my wheel.

Descent down from Stanwell was good, however we were escorted by a police motorbike rider so I couldnt open up down there as much as I would of liked and it was also a little slippery as well. From there it isnt to far to the end and a guy wearing a Turra shirt and I basically took it in turns to pull and covered the last 15k's or so in roughly 20-25mins which was pretty good going.

Finished with a time of 2 hours and 43 mins which I am very pleased with, I was trying to persuade my mates to ride back, however both were saying they were spent and with it getting warm and no sunblock it was probably the right decision. I felt pretty decent the whole ride apart from the brief stint following the descent in RNP, my legs dont feel to sore now and there were no signs of cramping which was excellent, so bring on the Fling next week!

Ride profile below:

Nice time, hard to get a real feel for how long this would take with all the traffic but I clocked in at about 2:46 which I was quite happy with. Same story as you, expected to start earlier but didn't get there in time and was also keen to ride back but had no takers, next year!

Now for the main event, the Fling this weekend, ouch.
