Hot Laps

OK, here it is! By popular request, your chance to brag about feats of speed!

Below is a list of 'Challenges' and the top ten times for each (click on the heading for full table). These are the places we all know and love - just another reason to get out there more often!

Rules

  • This is mostly on an honesty system, post your best time in a Hot Lap content type to have it auto-magically included in the tables.
  • Your Hot Lap is like any other content type - users can comment to compliment you or sneer in disbelief. So if a time looks a bit suspect get a witness to comment and verify the time before that happens!
  • You can have as many entries per challenge as you like - a handy record of your increased speed, but only the fastest one is ever linked.
  • Content authors can create a 'Hot lap Challenge' type to expand the list. Make up a goodie, post a time and go straight in at number 1!
  • This is total elapsed time, you are not allowed 'oh but I took off 5 minutes for the flat tire' - your bad luck, do it again!

Most Importantly - Safety!

Remember this is just for fun, so don't take it too seriously!

  • Always obey the rules of the road.
  • Never jump red lights, ride on the footpath, etc, etc. If you have to stop at lights, bad luck, this time counts so probably best to call of your attempt at a PB and try again later.
  • Do not endanger yourself or others trying to beat any times here.

Akuna Bay - booth 2 booth

Start from Illawong bay ticket booth (in the middle of road) on coal and candle drive.
Finish at the ticket booth at the top of coal and candle drive (Near the Corner of McCarrs creek rd).
Direction is anti clockwise.

Berowra Waters Road Climb

If you came over the ferry, start your timer as you walk off there. If you came down from Berowra Heights, go right down to the ferry and turn round.

Stop your timer at the mini-roundabout (corner with Turner Road).

I make this 4.13km and 211m vertical.

Bobbin Head Climb South (Bobbin Head Road)

Start your timer at the marina exit/small shelter/sandstone toilet (all within 5m of each other).

Stop when you reach the booth top of the hill by the National Park entrance.

To be clear - this climb heads South to the booth on Bobbin Head Road.

I made this 3.90km, 158m vertical climb.

Bobbin Head Climb SW-ish (Ku-ring-gai Chase Road)

This is the Bobbin Head climb towards the Pacific Highway at Hornsby. Not the whole way - just the steepest part.

Start your timer passing the information centre/Bobbin Inn. This is opposite a car park entrance.

Stop your timer at the first car park entrance of the Kalkari Visitors Centre. Note this isn't the first car park you will reach, but the second with large buildings.

I made this 2.94km/169m vertical.

Brooklyn to Pie in the Sky

One of the 'gorges' on the popular route North of Sydney. A nice steady climb with a great excuse to stop and have a break at the top.

Riding South from the Brooklyn Bridge on the Old Pacific Highway, start your timer at the junction with Brooklyn Road and stop at the entrance to Pie in the Sky.

I made this 3.87km, 184m vertical.

Collaroy To Palmy

Galston Gorge - Climb West

Start your timer crossing the old wooden bridge. That's the second bridge if you just came down from Hornsby Heights. Stop it at the 'T' junction with Crosslands Road.

I make this 3.14km and 182m vertical.

Kissing Point Road (Terrys Creek to Pacific Highway)

As this is mostly on public road always obey the road rules and specifically, do not jump the lights at The Comenarra Parkway... if you don't time them right stop and have a rest (but you cannot deduct this time from your 'lap') or go back and start again.

Start your timer down in LCNP at the ford over Terrys Creek then ride up the path and straight up KPR, stopping the clock as you reach the Pacific Highway intersection.

This climb is around 149m vertical... have fun Smiling

Liberator General St Martin drive (around Akuna Bay) out & Back

Starting at the Toll Booth cnr General Liberator St Martin Drive and McCarrs creek Rd:

Head in a clockwise direction towards Akuna Bay. Use caution in the downhill switchbacks - seen lots of people out brake themselves here.

Follow the water past Akuna Bay then up the hill to the West Head Intersection here:

Hit the "lap split" button and then return.

11.7km one way making a total for this challenge of almost 23.4km.

McCarrs Creek - Climb between West Head Road/Coal & Candle Drive

Heading West (up) McCarrs Creek Road start your timer passing the West Head Road junction (by Duck Holes) and stop it passing the junction with Coal and Candle Drive.

2.77km, 118m vertical. Nice and easy Eye-wink

McCarrs Creek - West Head Road to Mona Vale

Heading West (up) McCarrs Creek Road start your timer passing the West Head Road junction (by Duck Holes) and stop it at the mini-roundabout right next to Mona Vale Road in Terrey Hills.

Mostly climb, but there's a small bit of altitude loss after Coal and Candle Drive. Don't forget to save something for the nasty little pinch at the end though.

McCarrs Creek Rd - The Works (East to West)

This challenge is the entire length of McCarrs Creek road from East to West.

Start your timer where Pittwater Road changes to McCarrs Creek Road at Church Point. This is on the corner passing the wharf/bottle shop/post office.

Stop your timer at the mini-roundabout right next to Mona Vale Road in Terrey Hills.

West Head Road - Out and Back from McCarrs

From McCarrs Creek Rd turnoff here let her rip up to West head Road (turning right top of the hill of course - watch out for cars on this corner).

Get to the lookout and ignite the burners for the trip back.

Stop your clock back at the corner with McCarrs Creek Road where you started.
